Insect Brief

I recently had all my 3D objects photographed by a professional so I thought I would share my dragonfly project with you.

The brief was to create an illustrative response to one of the arthropods, the resulting creations will be used at a Big Saturday event in January 2012 were we would contribute.

I choose the dragonfly and wanted 'capture its beauty', I made dragonflies out of beads and suspended them in their own habitat with a tag that reads "I wish I could hold the moment of you flying by, your just a blur of colour if only I could freeze time" 


I also made a cushion with a beaded dragonfly sewn on.

 

Clare Moynihan

Clare Moynihan is a textile artist from Hertfordshire, she hand embroiders British insects onto felt balls and displays them similar to the impressive collection that I saw in Manchester museum.

 

Manchester Musueum Bugs

Today we were set a new brief in Manchester Museum. We were led to the back room in the museum to entomology department, to view there extremely large insect collection. Manchester Museum has a worldwide collection of nearly three million species, it is the third largest and most comprehensive in the United Kingdom.

I was impressed by their butterfly collection, it was unusual to see something to beautiful so still.
