Craft Fairs (North West)

I struggle finding good websites that show craft fair events in the North West, every website only shows 1-2 local ones so I've put the ones I've found together for July and August 2011.

They are hosted by a range of different craft groups. I will keep you updated with my experiences from them...

Editorial in Context

Final Stages

This is my editorial image, using print textures. Got a feeling its missing something....whether it needs detail in the background or his face its strong enough for my liking.

Editorial

I am finding making this figure difficult, I actually think I'm trying to hard and I need to let him go. In all my research and favourite Illustrators its the free-ness of the figure I admire, the simplicity and the creative shapes, so I don't know why I cant accept that in my own work. 
My guy so far :

 

I'm starting to have a soft spot for him now, my Mr.Benn look alike.

Martin Haake

Martin Haake- has been my inspiration through this project, I have looked into his figurative work to help me creative 'beautiful shapes'

In the above piece Haake uses telescopes, similar to what I am trying to produce in my 8x8 image.
Haake understands the figure well, the movements and postures needed to create the right position. The figures looking through the telescopes are bent forward slightly, showing concentration and that an action is involved, not just that the object is floating near there face. I think I need to try out a few positions with my figure, maybe look at a wooden art mannequin as guidance.

I want my figures to be similar to Haake's, to resemble a human figure not without being realistic, to create more of a sense, it must have all the necessary features but I can exaggerated where needed and to remove features that will not take away from the character.

I think proportion is a key factor and I will try and use this in my own work.

I want to aim for a similar illustration for my editorial, in terms of composion, colour, print textures and simplistic style.
